I set out to create a Shepherd character who would get lost in a forest with Veelas. This work explores Slavic folklore and Veela (Fairy) Lore from Slovakia. I thoroughly researched the traditional costumes and appropriate items that would have been worn by such shepherd in central Slovakia, and added several personal touches with the rooster feathers instead of peasant's one. As Fairies were most often said to be the souls of prematurely dead maidens and women who have committed suicide, I wanted to showcase them in a simple cotton and sheer slips usually worn under dresses and at night, their hair loose as opposed to the usual braided hairdo any girl or woman their age would don. They are temperamental and fickle, calling wayward travelers to dangerous fairy circles. I also rendered a Rooster to showcase one of antidotes against their powers - a rooster's crow in the morning.
I referenced all characters from Bratislava Elite Models , as I wanted to create characters that would have lived in Slovakia.
